Nestled in the Santa Ynez Valley, Acorn Village is abundant with natural places for children to be on and learn from the land. We have a preschool program that runs M, Th from 9-1. We also have an additional homechooling class that is just beginning on Thursdays for 6-10 year olds. In October, we spend our time at Lake Cachuma and each early Fall, the dam opens up to allow millions of gallons to flow down the river. This year that left "mud island" to discover. Because we are in a high drought area, mud is not something these children come across very often so this was an incredible discovery for them. As you can see from the picture, it didn't take them long to get acquainted with it! Learn more about Acorn Village and Tracy at: www.acornvillage.org
As an educator and parent, I offer classes and experiences that help children see the wonder in our natural world. I want children, and their families, to know the natural world around them, so they will love it and protect it. The best way I have found to connect them to nature is through fun experiences. Check out Kelly's blog here! We especially enjoyed her post "What are you doing that is worthy of imitating?"
